Baz Luhrmann Wants to Make an ELVIS TV Series That Will Be "Completely Different" From the Movie
Elvis director Baz Luhrmann isn’t finished with the King of Rock and Roll just yet. The filmmaker has recently revealed that he now wants to make an Elvis TV series, and explained that it will be completely different from the movie he made. During an interview with CinemaBlend, Luhrmann revealed:
“I really would love to do the episodic version of Elvis. And I'll take a completely different storytelling style than I would if I'd done it for the cinema.”
Elvis was a great movie and Austin Butler was awesome in the role of Elvis. After making such a great film, why would Luhrmann want to turn this story into a different format? The filmmaker explained:
“Now, okay, why would I be so stupid? Well, like when an iconic, popular musician does a song and they perform it in concert and they do, you know, let's say it's a dance cut, they do a heavy metal version. I think of the dexterity of music, and the ability to take the same piece and reinterpret and rediscover. It keeps the artist engaged. But it also keeps decoding and recoding the story, [and] keeps it alive in the moment. So that's why I would do it. And I think I would do it with Elvis.”
If Luhrmann is passionate about this project, he’s going to push it forward until it happens. This is a series that could very well pop up on Max one day. I’d certainly be interested in seeing what Luhrmann would do with an Elvis TV series! What about you?
