Beat Saber Mixes Lightsabers with Guitar Hero Style Gameplay in VR

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you were to mix lightsabers with the crazy music machinations of Guitar Hero and Fruit Ninja.....in VR? No? Well you are completely missing out. Earlier today I stumbled upon a really amazing looking VR game called Beat Saber. The game looks pretty simple in it's essence. You use laser sabers to slice blocks with directions on them, to the beat of the music. The blocks are colored so you know which saber to use, and you also avoid obstacles all at the same time. The result is a pretty spectacular looking and sounding game.

Hyperbolic Magnetism is the creator of the game. Starting in 2016 they found that there were no good rhythm based games in VR, so the creators Jan Ilavsky and Vladimír Hrinčár of the indie game studio did what they had to do and started development.

I was a professional musician for several years so when I started to make games I always thought it would be nice to create a rhythm based gameplay. When HTC Vive came out I bought it and was looking forward to play Audio Shield. I was a little bit disappointed mainly because of the procedural content. I wanted to play something, where you feel each note and it perfectly fits the music - Jan Ilavsky of Hyperbolic Gamers

While the game play looks amazing, the music is also something to be noted as it is written by Jarslav Beck who has worked on a bunch of AAA titles and movies like The Force Awakens, Call of Duty WWII, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Battlefield 1 and a ton more.

If you want to check out the game for yourself here is a teaser trailer as well as a preview from Gamescom last year.

The game is slated to release in Q1 of this year on the HTC Vive Playstation VR and Oculus Platforms.
