Beautiful Trailer for Feature Adaptation of THE SUMMER BOOK Starring Glenn Close
A beautiful trailer has been released for the feature film adaptation of The Summer Book, starring Glenn Close, Anders Danielsen Lie, Emily Matthews, and Ingvar Sigurdsson. The film is directed by Charlie McDowell (The One I Love, The Discovery, Tales from the Loop, Dispatches from Elsewhere) from a screenplay written by Robert Jones. The story is based on the book of the same name written by Tove Jansson.
The synopsis reads: “9-year-old Sophia (Emily Matthews) spends the summers at her family’s seasonal home on a tranquil isle in the Gulf of Finland, but this will be the first summer without her mother.
“Her father (Anders Danielsen Lie) remains numbed by grief, while her grandmother (Glenn Close) guides her on a giddy, winding path towards young adulthood.
“With a sense of infinite possibility and a tender regard for the wonders of the natural world, Sophia and her grandmother explore the terrain, celebrate midsommar, and test the limits of faith in the face of life's many storms.”
This looks like a beautifully made film with a heartfelt story. It first premiered at the 2024 London Film Festival to rave reviews - with First Showing saying it “plays like a live-action Miyazaki movie,” which sounds pretty amazing.
Music Box Films will release The Summer Book in select US theaters on September 19th, 2025.
