Beautiful Trailer For Prime Video Documentary JOHN CANDY: I LIKE ME From Filmmaker Colin Hanks

Prime Video has released the full trailer for the upcoming documentary John Candy: I Like Me, from filmmaker Colin Hanks, and producer Ryan Reynolds. The film follows the personal life and impactful career of actor and world class comedian John Candy, who fans know and love from Uncle Buck, Home Alone, The Great Outdoors, Spaceballs, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, National Lampoon’s Vacation, and Cool Runnings, just to name a few.

Candy’s family and friends share his story, in their own words, through never-before-seen archival footage, photos, and interviews. Those in the doc include John’s daughter, Jennifer Candy-Sullivan, as well as close friends and co-stars Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Steve Martin, Conan O’Brien, Dave Thomas, and more.

The doc’s synopsis reads: “From director Colin Hanks and lifelong John Candy fan Ryan Reynolds comes John Candy: I Like Me, an exploration of the life of the Canadian comedic icon.

“This comprehensive John Candy film documents his on- and off-camera existence, featuring never-before-seen home videos, intimate access to his family, and candid recollections from collaborators to paint a bigger picture of one of the brightest stars of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s.

“It’s the story of a son, husband, father, friend, and professional driven to always bring joy to audiences and loved ones while battling personal ghosts and Hollywood pressures.”

The film is premiering at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival this month, then Amazon will debut John Candy: I Like Me streaming on Prime Video on October 10th. Just the trailer has me choked up.

Between the footage of John Candy, who just has the kindest face and very best sense of humor, and the Cynthia Erivo cover of the Paul Young classic “Every Time You Go Away,” I just know this doc will have me in tears. But as a huge fan of Candy, I look forward to watching.
