BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Director Bill Condon in Talks to Helm THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN

It looks like Universal Pictures has found the director they want to take on their The Bride of Frankenstein remake. This is one of the several monster films that Universal is currently developing and they are currently in talks with director Bill Condon to direct it. Condon recently directed the Disney mega-hit Beauty and the Beast. Prior to that, he directed films such as Dreamgirls, Mr. Holmes, Gods and Monsters, and the final two Twilight movies.

The original 1935 version of the film starred Elsa Lanchester and Boris Karloff, and it's one of my favorite classic monster films and Condon himself has said the same thing in previous interviews. It's just such a beautifully told story. Condon is a great director that has made some fantastic films in his career and I'd like to think he'd be able to pull off something amazing with it, but only time will tell. David Koepp (Jurassic Park) wrote a draft of a script for the movie in a previous interview he talked about it saying:

"I loved it. It’s one of my favorite scripts I’ve written in years because if you reimagine the Frankenstein story, it gets into so many issues of men trying to feel dominant over women. To create someone who then says, 'You don’t own me,' it becomes a tale of liberation. It was great. It was really fun, and I hope it gets going soon because I think it’d make for a great movie."

I have no idea if the studio still plans on using that script, but it seems like something they might want to hold on to. Whether we like it or not, Universal is going to move forward with the contemporized versions of these classic films. All I can hope for is that they honor the original films and give fans something we'll enjoy. I think Condon would be a solid director for the project, especially with his love of the original film.

What do you think about the possibility of Condon taking on The Bride of Frankenstein?
