BEETLEJUICE 2 Reportedly in Development with Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, and More

There have been reports of Beetlejuice 2 happening and not happening for years. Tim Burton and Michael Keaton have always seemed like they are open to the sequel, but the project has never been able to really get off the ground, but it’s come close a few times!

Well, now it looks like the long-awaited sequel might actually be happening! The Ankler insider Jeff Sneider reports that the sequel is "finally a go" with Burton reuniting to direct and Keaton coming back to reprise his role as the "bio-exorcist" Betelgeuse.

Thanks not all! Winona Ryder is said to be coming back as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O'Hara returning as her stepmother, Delia Deetz. Oh yeah! and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) is reportedly set to star as Lydia’s daughter as well!

Snyder said: “I’m told that Jenna Ortega at the very least has an offer to play Lydia Deetz's daughter in BEETLEJUICE 2, which is finally a go with Burton, Keaton, O'Hara and Ryder back. That's the word on the street...”

Plan B is producing the film, and in an interview with Deadline last year, Burton was asked about the sequel and he said: "I only know if I'm making a film when I'm actually on the set shooting. I try to go back to the root of everything. It springs from a seed and then it grows, rather than out of these statements. I am working on ideas and things but it's all very early days. We'll set how it goes. How's that for a none answer?"

When asked about the sequel a few years ago and what was going on with it he said, “Nothing, nothing,” and when they asked his opinion on whether anything would ever happen with it, he replied, “I don’t know. I doubt it.”

But, now here we are, it looks like it’s actually happening! One of the original screenwriters had been previously quoted while talking about a possibility of a sequel, saying, "The bottom line is, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton are not going to think about a Beetlejuice sequel unless it somehow catches the energy of the first film. And that’s not easy. Beetlejuice really was lightning in a bottle. But there have been discussions since it really shocked everyone in 1988. And in terms of [planned sequel] Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, wiser heads prevailed. Thank God there’s a level of integrity here."

Hopefully, the creative team has come up with a great and fun story to tell with these characters! Are you excited about this?
