Before Henry Cavill Was Cast as Geralt in THE WITCHER Liam Hemsworth was the Frontrunner

Last week, the bombshell news from Netflix hit that Henry Cavill was not going to return to play Geralt in The Witcher Season 4. It was also announced at that time that Cavill will be replaced by Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth. This news seemed to hit fans hard and several of them are already saying that there’s no point in continuing or watching the series without Cavill’s involvement. He’s what made the show!

Well, some interesting news has surfaced from the Witcher resource website Redanian Intelligence, which is reporting that this isn't the first time Hemsworth has been in the running for the role.

Hemsworth reportedly auditioned to play Geralt back in 2018, and he was actually one of the frontrunners, alongside Sebastian Stan, before Cavill was ultimately cast. So there was a time where there Hemsworth was very close to originally landing the role.

While I found that interesting, it doesn’t really help the situation because Cavill is Geralt and it’s hard to imagine anyone else in the role. I predict that the series is going to bomb with its fourth season and that it will end up being canceled after its Season 4 run. But, we’ll just have to wait and see.

As for why Cavill left the show, it was previously reported that Cavill was thinking about leaving the show after Season 2 due to disagreements with the producers in regard to the show's content and Geralt's role. Cavill wanted to stay true to the source material, but the creative team was looking to do something different. It’s a shame things went down the way they did.

Hemsworth previously said in a statement: "As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure."

Cavill has already shot The Witcher Season 3, but we don’t know when that will be released. Is anyone excited about the future of The Witcher!?
