Bella Ramsey Reportedly Eyed to Play Kitty Pryde in Marvel’s X-MEN Reboot
It looks like there’s a chance that Marvel Studios might be phasing Bella Ramsey into the mutant spotlight.
According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, The Last of Us and Game of Thrones star is reportedly being considered to play Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot. While nothing is confirmed, the rumor is gaining traction as Marvel begins assembling its next generation of mutant heroes.
Ramsey, now 21, would be playing a slightly older take on Kitty Pryde. Ramsey's performance in The Last of Us has earned widespread acclaim, even amid fan backlash. With the popularity of that series, it wouldn’t be surprising that Marvel would be looking to bring Ramsey into the MCU.
Over the years, Kitty Pride has evolved from a bright-eyed teenager into one of the X-Men’s emotional anchors. I with Marvel lookig to cast someone like Ramsy, they could be looking to lean into the character’s complexity.
Ramsey joins a growing list of rumored names surrounding the reboot. Julia Butters has also been mentioned for Kitty, while other casting whispers include Bryan Cranston as Professor X, Daisy Edgar-Jones as Jean Grey, and Hunter Schafer as Mystique.
The new X-Men film will most likely be directed by Thunderbolts* helmer Jake Schreier, with Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) writing the script.
It’s expected to land after Avengers: Doomsday, which will feature the return of Fox’s legacy X-Men actors.
When asked about his approach, Schreier kept things vague but hinted at a character-driven vision: "Even if I were confirmed on that movie, I don't think I would be allowed to answer that question.
"I guess what I would say is that it always starts from character and working with great writers and collaborators, and certainly thinking about how to do something different with any project that you take on. That's as much as I can say."
