Beloved Indie Video Game VAMPIRE SURVIVORS is Getting an Animated Series

Vampire Survivors is a small indie game from poncle that has done crazy well. It’s available to play on mobile, PC, and even on Xbox (affiliate link) and pretty much everyone loves it. I talked about how fantastic of a game it is earlier this year. Deadline has reported that poncle is working with Story Kitchen to adapt the game into an animated television series. Here’s the official description of the game courtesy of Steam:

Mow down thousands of night creatures and survive until dawn! Vampire Survivors is a gothic horror casual game with rogue-lite elements, where your choices can allow you to quickly snowball against the hundreds of monsters that get thrown at you.

This is really interesting. I’ve enjoyed Vampire Survivors, but there’s not really a story or much lore that I’m aware of. It will be interesting to see how various characters are characterized. In the game, you control one of several different characters and they auto-attack waves of enemies with a wide variety of weapons like whips, daggers, garlic, and more. Luca Galante, founder of poncle, shared his excitement for the project:

The most important thing in Vampire Survivors is the story, so it’s a dream come true to see what started as a little indie game I made on my weekends come to life as an animated TV show! It’s also great to be partnering up with such experienced and talented people to make the show. I do wonder if they’ve realized that there isn’t a single vampire in Vampire Survivors, though.

Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson added:

When our Head of Creative, Dan Jevons, flagged Vampire Survivors for us last year upon its initial release, we were prepared to dismiss it as just another vampire game. Hundreds of hours played later, we were all hooked, and we just could not get enough!! Needless to say, we’re truly honored to partner with this incredible team and to continue the Vampire Survivors story!

Finally, Dan Jevons of Story Kitchen said:

Despite being responsible for countless hours of lost productivity at Story Kitchen, we are both thrilled, and honored, to partner with poncle to bring the bombastic gothic world of Vampire Survivors to life in linear media.

Based on the report, a writer is still being sought out and the project will be shopped out to different animated TV network buyers. I think a Vampire Survivors series could actually do well on Adult Swim although I could also see it maybe going to Max or Netflix. Are you excited for a Vampire Survivors series? Where would you like to see it end up?
