BELOW Trailer Unleashes a Sea Creature on Josh Hartnett in Netflix’s New Horror Series
The ocean is hiding something nasty, and Josh Hartnett is going to have to deal with it in Netflix’s upcoming limited horror series Below.
Created by Jesse McKeown (The Umbrella Academy), the six-episode series arrives on Netflix on October 8, 2026, and the official trailer gives us a creepy first look at the nightmare brewing off the coast of Newfoundland.
Hartnett plays a grizzled fisherman whose remote community finds itself terrorized by a mysterious sea creature. With his family and neighbors in danger, he’s forced into a fight against something lurking in the water, although Netflix is keeping the monster itself under wraps for now.
We don’t get so much as a quick glimpse of the creature, leaving its appearance and exactly what it is for viewers to discover when the series premieres.
Joining Hartnett in the cast are Charlie Heaton, Mackenzie Davis, Rohan Campbell, Ruby Stokes, Kaleb Horn, and Willow Kean.
Below is said to take inspiration from John Carpenter and Steven Spielberg, and those influences are pretty easy to pick up from what Netflix has shown.
There are shades of Jaws in the coastal terror, while The Fog and The Thing come to mind with the isolated community and unseen threat. There might even be a little Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft swimming around in there.
The trailer also brings to mind the recent horror series Widow’s Bay, another project influenced by Carpenter and Spielberg. Below, however, appears to be pushing harder into straight horror rather than mixing its scares with comedy.
A remote Newfoundland town, a pissed-off sea monster, and Josh Hartnett fighting to keep everyone alive sounds like a pretty cool combination for an October horror binge.
