JUSTICE LEAGUE Cast Talks About Batman Smiling, Wonder Woman's Role, Joss Whedon's Direction and More

The cast of Justice League recently sat down with Empire Magazine to talk about their upcoming film Justice League. This movie has gone through an interesting development process, especially with Zack Snyder bringing Joss Whedon on board to replace him as the director.

It's sounding like everyone is happy with how things are turning out with the film. We know that one of the things that was going to be different with Justice League was that it would have a lighter tone. This is something that was planned all along, even when Snyder was developing it. Ezra Miller (The Flash) talked about this saying:

"The first time I ever sat in Zack's office, he told me people were mad at him for making things too dark. Zack always intended for the Justice League to rise out of the darkness, and maybe even bring Batman with them. Maybe an inch."

They bring Batman's spirit up enough to make him smile! Ben Affleck says that "You get to see Batman smile. For the first time!" So, I'd say that's a pretty big deal. The smile comes during a scene where Batman brings the team to the Batcave. The Flash is very excited to be there and is said to wave "merrily at Alfred." Alfred goes on to say:

"If you'd warned me, I would have baked a cake. I'll break open the party hats and the pinata. I'll make some tea. Don't know where I'll find the cups."

It's said the scene concludes with Aquaman calling Alfred a "badass". This is the kind of humor that Joss Whedon interjected into the story. There's been a lot of rumor and speculation regarding Whedon's involvement with the film and how he's handling it. One thing that Ben Affleck makes clear, though, is that it won't be anything like an Avengers film.

"I didn't sense that we were moving towards something that felt like The Avengers. Joss is more than just an Avengers director. He's a good storyteller, full stop. In mid-stream, Joss got on and part of what interested him was the puzzle aspect of it, fitting in pieces that weren't there yet. He put the rest of the pieces in and gave it his own imprimatur."

Joss Whedon definitely brought some big changes to the film, but they were all in place before Zack Snyder left. I'm sure he signed off on all those changes. Regardless, we've heard time and time again that this will very much be a Zack Snyder-style film.

There have been a lot of rumors regarding Wonder Woman's role being beefed up in the film due to the success of her solo film. But, according to Gal Gadot that's not the case. In regards to the reshoots, she said that she only did one week. She went on to talk about her role in the story saying:

"Diana serves as the glue of the team. She finds moments to support every one of the team and make them feel stronger or believe in themselves. But this is not a Wonder Woman movie."

I'm happy to hear that. It may not be a Wonder Woman movie, but Ben Affleck says it's the biggest scale film he's ever been a part of:

"The movie's bigger in scale than any movie I've been involved with in my career. It feels massive in terms of the visual elements. That's something that Zack is really good at. That will be admired."

Well, I hope that turns out to be true! We know Zack Snyder will deliver the epic visuals. Hopefully, the story will end up being just as impressive.
