Ben Affleck Was Pitched GOOD WILL HUNTING 2 But He and Matt Damon Aren't Pursuing It

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon made their big splash in Hollywood over 25 years ago with Good Will Hunting, in which the two became the youngest Oscar winners for Best Original Screenplay. It was a great movie, and apparently, some people in the industry think the movie needs a sequel.

During a recent interview with Damon, he laughed when sharing that Affleck was recently approached and pitched a sequel. He said:

“Someone just tried to pitch Ben ‘Good Will Hunting 2.’ I shit you not — that happened. He told me today. He was like, ‘You’re not going to believe what I heard.’ This was a flat-out sequel. I don’t get it.”

The interviewer then told Affleck about what Damon said and Affleck responded by shaking his head and saying: “Matt is always telling stories that he should not be telling.” He then laughed, and said: “It’s not a sequel we’re going to pursue.”

Good Will Hunting was directed by Gus Van Sant, and it tells the story of a young, blue-collar genius named Will, who works as a janitor at MIT and spends his spare time solving complex mathematical equations. When Will gets into trouble with the law, he is given a chance to avoid jail time if he agrees to work with a therapist named Sean Maguire, played by Robin Williams. Through their therapy sessions, Sean helps Will confront his past trauma and overcome his emotional barriers, allowing him to develop meaningful relationships and pursue his intellectual potential.

It’s a great movie, but it certainly does not need a sequel.
