Ben Affleck Will Return To Play Batman in DC's THE FLASH Movie!
I honestly didn’t think it would happen, but Ben Affleck will once again reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Warner Bros.’ upcoming DC movie The Flash! I’m seriously shocked by the news, but happy about it! I actually liked Affleck’s version of Batman! So, the fact that we’ll get to see him expand on that role is pretty cool.
According to Deadline, it will be a cameo role and it will be alongside Michael Keaton, who is also reprising his role as Batman from the Tim Burton-directed films.
While it is said to be just a cameo, The Flash director Andy Muscietti describes it a a “substantial” part. Affleck reportedly got the script for The Flash last week and agreed to jump on board the project. Muschietti said in a statement:
“He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before. It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”
Another reason why Affleck’s Batman needs to come back inThe Flash is because Miller’s Flash considers him to be the original Dark Knight, the guy he fought alongside in Justice League. According to Muschietti, it was necessary to have Affleck’s Batman as a starting point:
“He’s the baseline. He’s part of that unaltered state before we jump into Barry’s adventure…There’s a familiarity there.”
Well, shit. This is unexpected! But, I like it. The Flash is scheduled for release on June 3, 2022. Ezra Miller will be back to reprise his role. What do you all think about Affleck coming back as Batman after he said he was done?
