Ben Stiller Teams With A24, HBO, and the NBA for Epic New York Knicks Documentary Series After Historic Championship Win

For New York Knicks fans, the last week has felt like a dream. After decades of heartbreak, near misses, and endless hope, the NBA franchise finally captured its first NBA championship in 53 years. Now, that incredible journey is getting the documentary treatment from one of the team's most passionate supporters.

Ben Stiller has officially confirmed that he’s developing a multi-part documentary series centered on the history of the New York Knicks, their cultural impact, and the long road that led to this year's championship victory. The project is being produced in partnership with A24, HBO, and the NBA.

The announcement came shortly after the Knicks' title win, with Stiller sharing his excitement on X: “Couldn’t be more excited to make this doc with @a24 and @hbo about the NY KNICKS!!!!” He followed that up with a fitting rally cry: “#LETSGOKNICKS.”

The actor, filmmaker, and lifelong Knicks fanatic also appeared on Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart’s Roommates podcast, where he spoke directly to the championship-winning stars about what fans can expect from the upcoming series.

While Stiller admitted he's already been capturing moments on his phone throughout the team's remarkable run, he explained that the documentary's scope will reach far beyond the current roster.

“Obviously I’ve been shooting some stuff on my phone,” he continued on the podcast, “But it’s going to be about all eras of the Knicks, and this team obviously, there’s a culmination here, of something that’s been going on for a long time. It’s super exciting.

“It’s great to have had all this access to your team. We’re going to probably be shooting a little bit more during next season, and I’m going to hit you guys up for some interviews. It’s going to be over the next year that we’ll be working on it,” he told the hosts. “A lot of people have wanted to make it happen for a long time.”

That approach sounds like it will make this much more than a championship recap. The Knicks have one of the richest histories in professional basketball, filled with legendary players, unforgettable playoff battles, iconic Madison Square Garden moments, and enough frustration to fuel generations of fans.

Bringing all of that together with the payoff of a championship season could make for a pretty incredible sports documentary.

Stiller is set to direct the event series, which A24 says will examine the franchise's entire journey, including the beloved teams of the 1990s and the dramatic path that finally brought the Larry O’Brien Trophy back to New York.

According to the official synopsis, the series will “trace the full arc of the franchise from the ’90s to the improbable, record-breaking run that finally returned a championship to New York.”

A24 also promises that viewers will get an unprecedented look inside the organization, describing the project as offering “unprecedented NBA access, never-before-seen footage and a definitive look at one of basketball’s most iconic stories.”

Considering the involvement of HBO, A24, and direct cooperation from the NBA, this already has all the ingredients of a must-watch sports documentary. Add in Stiller's lifelong connection to the team and the timing of the Knicks finally ending a 53-year championship drought, and it's easy to see why fans are already excited.

For Knicks supporters, the celebration isn't over yet. The championship banner is on the way, and now the story of how it all happened is headed to the screen. That’s a pretty great victory lap for one of the most passionate fanbases in sports.
