Ben Stiller to Play Jack Torrance in a Stage Adaptation of Stephen King’s THE SHINING
Stephen King’s classic horror novel The Shining is being adapted a stage play for a 2023 West End debut, and Ben Stiller is in talks to take on the role of Jack Torrance!
I would actually love to see Stiller take on this role! It’s a very interesting and different choice for Jack Torrance, and I think that Stiller could pull it off brilliantly. I’d like to see how he would bring this iconic character to life.
The play is being developed and directed by Ivo van Hove and the rest of the creative team consists of Tony winner Simon Stephens (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Morning Sun), who is adapting the King novel.
It’s explained that the stage play of The Shining will “adhere more closely with King’s 1977 book than Stanley Kubrick’s film, which in addition to Jack Nicholson starred Shelley Duvall as Wendy Torrance and Danny Lloyd as Danny Torrance.”
The play is being produced by Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, who worked on Broadway with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Rehearsals are set to begin in the fall, with London performances targeted for January 2023. An eventual move to Broadway is expected.
What do you think about Ben Stiller taking on the role of Jack Torrance?
