Warner Bros. is moving forward with a sequel to Jason Statham’s prehistoric giant shark thriller The Meg and they’ve hired Ben Wheatley to direct. Wheatley, who most recently directed the Gothic Netflix thriller Rebecca is a great choice to take on the next film in the franchise!

Wheatley is also the director of films such as Kill List, Free Fire, Sightseers, and High Rise. I’ve enjoyed the films that he’s made. Most of them are pretty insane and I’m looking forward to seeing that kind of insanity in The Meg 2.

The key talent from the first movie is expected to return, including Jason Statham, who is also creatively involved with the development of the sequel. Other cast members include Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson and Ruby Rose.

Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the most recent draft of the script off of a previous draft written by Dean Georgaris. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Belle Avery are back as producers.

The first film was ridiculous but super freakin’ fun. I loved it! The movie knew exactly what it was and the filmmakers had fun with it. Jason Statham fighting a giant shark! That’s all the audience wanted to see and it worked!

It’ll be cool to see what they end up doing with the sequel! I imagine they be fighting against an even bigger prehistoric shark? Maybe an army of giant sharks? Maybe both!? We’ll just have to wait and see.
