Benedict Cumberbatch Praises Director Sam Raimi's Work on DOCTOR STRANGE 2 - "He's an Incredible Force"
Benedict Cumberbatch has been in the process of shooting Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness under the direction of Sam Raimi. I’ve been incredibly excited about seeing what Raimi brings to this sequel, and in a recent interview with Collider, Cumberbatch shared his experience working with the talented filmmaker saying he’s an “incredible force.”
“Sam, amazing. He’s so collaborative. God, he comes with the baggage of an icon. He’s an incredible force, especially in this genre. But he’s so humble, he’s so nice, he’s so appreciative, you really wanna serve him. And boy, when he’s happy, you know you’ve done something right. He’s so good at getting you there and getting it there. It’s been a very, very collaborative process, this one. Our origin stories, I guess, and obviously the beasts that were the Avengers films to be a part of were a thrill, but you’re kind of just along for the ride. You do the best with what you’ve already got given to do. The second time around, there’s a bit more of, ‘So, what do you want to do, and how do we go about solving this?’ So it feels very creative. Scarily so, sometimes.”
I had the opportunity to meet Raimi once, and he is seriously the nicest and most humble person ever, so I kinda understand what Cumberbatch is saying. I’m just happy to hear that he’s had a great time working with Raimi on the film and it’s going to be so cool to see Raimi’s filmmaking style translates to the world of Doctor Strange.
Cumberbatch is joined by Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams, who will be back as Wong, Karl Mordo, and Christine Palmer. Elizabeth Olsen‘s Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, will also play a big role in the story. WandaVision will tie directly into the events of the Doctor Strange sequel. Xochitl Gomez has also joined the cast as America Chavez.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on March 25, 2022. Cumberbatch will next be reprising his role as Dr. Stephen Strange in the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man 3.
