Benedict Cumberbatch Predicts DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Will Have the Success of SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME
Our last Marvel movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home was a really fun and wild movie. It brought back actors in roles that we never thought we’d see in the MCU, and it told an expansive story with high stakes, and heartbreaking results. The film got fans back to theaters, and it broke records in the process. Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch played a big part in that film’s story, and he believes that his sequel film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is going to keep the momentum going.
Cumberbatch recently sat down with Empire, explaining:
“It’s a big, big movie. It’s going to be an absolute riot. And if it brings off the level of ambition it’s got, we’re going to have a success on the level of Spidey. There you go, I’ll put my flag in the sand.”
Strange has been a pivotal character in the MCU since he joined in his first film. He assisted Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame, in knowing the path that had to be taken in the defeat of Thanos, and he has tried to take over the mentor role for Peter Parker since Tony’s demise. Things have gotten pretty dicey for Dr. Stephen Strange since then, but hopefully we will see some resolution in the upcoming sequel.
Cumberbatch went on to talk about Strange’s story arc in the film, saying:
“There’s a lot of reckoning. And a lot of self-discovery. Strange is almost a stranger to himself before this film unfolds and reveals what, essentially, is in his nature, that he then has to either confront or resist or fall into or become. There are some very bold ideas, and some extraordinary tests of Strange and encounters. There are some very unexpected conclusions.”
I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Doctor Strange, and how this film will affect the rest of the MCU. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit theaters on May 6th.
