Benny Safdie Joins the Cast of ARE YOU THERE GOD? IT'S ME, MARGARET
Actor, writer, director, and half of the filmmaking duo The Safdie Brothers, Benny Safdie has been cast in the upcoming screen adaptation of the classic coming-of-age novel, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. Safdie starred in the films Good Time and Pieces of a Woman, and was recently cast in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series at Disney.
In the film, Safdie will play Margaret’s father, Herb, whom the book describes as a Jewish insurance salesman who is married to Barbara, a Christian housewife, who will be played by Rachel McAdams. The film also stars Abby Ryder Fortson (Ant-Man) as title character Margaret Simon, and Oscar winner Kathy Bates (Misery, Titanic) as Margaret’s grandmother, Sylvia.
The story is based on the novel by Judy Blume, and has been adapted for the screen by Kelly Fremon Craig (The Edge of Seventeen), who is directing as well.
I’m excited to see Safdie in new roles. This wasn’t one that I was expecting to see, but I’m sure he will be great in it. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is currently filming.
