Best Buy Will Stop Selling DVDs and Blu-rays in 2024 in Stores and Online
Best Buy has confirmed that it will begin to stop selling physical media such as DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K Ultra HDs in 2024. They will no longer sell them in their stores or online.
It’s just a sign of the times. With the rise of streaming and the option to buy digital movies, physical media is dying. A lot of us saw this coming, so it shouldn’t really come as a surprise. But, it’s still sad to see, especially for those of us who have collected physical media over the years.
Variety confirmed the news and noted the company made the decision to quit selling DVDs up to nine months ago. A spokesperson for Best Buy said:
“To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was decades ago. Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover, and enjoy.”
