Bette Midler Gives Long-Awaited Update on Sequel HOCUS POCUS 3
Bette Midler has delivered Academy Award nominated performances in films like The Rose and Beaches, and other memorable favorites like The First Wives Club and Drowning Mona, but the role in which she is probably best known across all fan age ranges is that of Winifred (Winnie) Sanderson in the Hocus Pocus films.
The first film was released in 1993, and has remained a cult classic. Fans were surprised and delighted when the Sanderson witches reunited for the sequel Hocus Pocus 2 in 2022.
The movie did so well with fans, and deepened the lore within the franchise, leading Disney to quickly give the green light to a third film. But we haven’t heard much about the sequel since the news hit that it was in the works.
Now, Midler has given us our first update in some time, and it sounds promising. In a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Midler was asked about the film, and she said:
“They sent a script and a lot of it was brilliant. So, I got very excited, and now we're trying to figure out what it is and how it's going and where it's going to be and how much it's going to cost.”
So it doesn’t sound like they have the script ironed out yet, but it does sound like they have some good ideas, and that’s a step in the right direction.
Midler is joined in the returning cast by Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah Sanderson and Kathy Najimy as Mary Sanderson.
Anne Fletcher and Jen D'Angelo, who previously worked on Hocus Pocus 2, are attached to direct and write the third film. While no cast members are confirmed yet, it is likely that alongside the Sanderson sisters, Salem's new coven of Becca (Whitney Peak), Izzy (Belissa Escobedo), and Cassie (Lilia Buckingham) will also return.
Stay tuned for updates.
