Betty Boop Turns Bloodthirsty in the First Look at Her Gory New Horror Movie BOOP
Looks like Betty Boop is trading in her jazz-age charm for something far darker. The iconic 1930s cartoon character is stepping into the world of horror with an upcoming indie slasher called Boop, and the first look is shockingly gruesome.
According to Deadline, the movie is described as “a re-imagining of 1930s cartoon icon Betty Boop, told through a genre lens.”
The image shows Betty holding and sniffing intestines, which is a visul that’s guaranteed to make fans raise their eyebrows.
Boop stars Devanny Pinn as a terrifying version of the beloved character. The story follows a group of horror podcasters who sneak into an abandoned, haunted theater to dig into the mystery of a Hollywood starlet known as Boop.
Their investigation quickly spirals into a blood-soaked nightmare when the undead starlet emerges for revenge, turning their night of curiosity into a fight for survival.
The movie is directed by Jared Cohn and written by Jose Prendes and Josh Ridgway, with Katisha Shaw, Spencer Breslin, Eva Hamilton, and Colton Tran rounding out the cast.
This twisted reinvention of Betty Boop continues a growing horror trend that started when classic characters began entering the public domain. The movement took off with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey in 2023, which transformed the honey-loving bear into a savage killer.
Since then, characters like Bambi, Peter Pan, Mickey Mouse, and more have been reimagined as nightmare-fueled murderers.
Betty has always been known as a symbol of innocence and glamour, a cute, flirty icon who danced through black-and-white cartoons with her “boop-oop-a-doop” charm. Created by Max Fleischer and Grim Natwick back in 1930, she’s appeared in countless shorts, comic strips, and even fashion lines.
Seeing her drenched in blood is about as far from her original image as it gets.
