BIG HERO 6 Is Continuing as a TV Series on Disney XD
Disney's Big Hero 6 was a great movie, and I was hoping that we'd get to see a sequel somewhere down the road. Well, the studio has announced that Walt Disney Animation Studios will be continuing the story of the Academy Award winning film in a series that will be coming to Disney XD. The show is currently in production and it is set to debut sometime in 2017.
The Big Hero 6 film was inspired by the Marvel Comics characters that were created by Man of Action's Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau. The series will be brought to life by executive producers Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, who are the creators and showrunners of Kim Possible.
Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide, had this to say in a statement:
"Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series – full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob – andBaymax – can deliver."
The series will be a direct sequel to the film, and it will pick up right after the events of that story. It will continue the adventures of Hiro and his lovable robot Baymax. Of course they will be joined by the now established team which includes Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred, and GoGo Tomago. Together they will protect the city of San Fransokyo from villains while Hiro continues his education as a scientific prodigy at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology.
I'm excited about this! I was hoping for a movie, but a series could be even better. That all depends on if they do it right, though. Who knows, maybe this series will lead into another feature film!
