Bill Murray Might Appear in Marvel's ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA
It looks like there’s a chance that Bill Murray could appear in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quntumania. If this is true, it would be awesome! I’ve actually wondered if Marvel would get Murray to be in one of their films.
The evidence for the the possible casting comes from Cosmic Circus, who reports that an English actor named John Townsend has been cast in Dust Bunny, which is the production name for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quntumania. The role listed for Townsend is that of a photo double for none other than Bill Murray.
In case you’re wondering what a photo double is, Central Casting describes it as someone who "must resemble an actor as closely as possible in height, build, hair color, and complexion. They often need to look like they could be the actor's twin. A photo double can be used when a principal actor is in a scene but is not the focus and is essentially functioning as a Background Actor. Since the photo double looks like the actor from a distance, they can film in the actor's place while they prepare for other scenes."
Townsend seems to have the right height, build, and hair color as Murray, but we’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out. One other interesting aspect about all this that could be another clue of Murray’s casting is that director Peyton Reed tweeted some information about Murray’s history with Marvel saying that the actor voiced the Human Torch in a 1975 radio series. You can check out that tweet below.
Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are set to return and reprise their roles as Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne. They will also be joined by Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer, who will be back as Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. They will be joined by Jonathan Majors, who is set to play the film's villain, Kang the Conqueror or one of the many variants of Kang. On top of that, Kathryn Newton will make her MCU debut as Scott Lang's daughter, Cassie Lang.
When previously talking about the third chapter in the Ant-Man saga, Reed teased what we can expect from the film in terms of its size. He’s really excited about what’s coming and explained that this next sequel is going to be much bigger than the first two films:
“There are some really exciting things in store, none of which I can speak to about right now. As is the Marvel way!
“I think the third Ant-Man movie is going to be…a much bigger, more sprawling movie than the first two. It’s going to have a very, very different visual template. And that’s all I will say.”
I’m excited to see what the plan is for this movie and how exactly it’s going to fit in with the events of the Loki series and also how it will progress the overall MCU phase 4 story arc.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens in theaters on February 17, 2023.
