Bill Murray Says Rick Moranis and Harold Ramis Are "Greatly Missed" in GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE

While we’ve been told many times that Rick Moranis will not appear in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I was still holding out for hope that he would make a surprise appearance. I would have loved to see him reunite with the original cast for this movie! It’s not gonna happen, though. Unfortunately, that’s something that we aren’t going to get to see.

However, the upcoming movie will bring back Murray's Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd's Ray Stantz, Ernie Hudson's Winston Zeddemore, Annie Potts, back as Janine Melnitz, and Sigourney Weaver as Dana Barrett. So, that’s exciting! The late Harold Ramis’ character Egon will be at the heart of the story as it centers around his relatives.

During a recent interview on Ellen, Murray explained that Moranis and Ramis are greatly missed:

"We're missing two great people. We're missing Rick Moranis and we're missing Harold Ramis. And they're greatly missed for so many reasons. They were so much a part of the creation of it and the fun of it. But Harold is featured in the story of the movie, so it's going to be very interesting."

This upcoming chapter in the original Ghostbusters franchise centers on a single mom and her two kids who arrive in the small town of Summerville, Oklahoma. they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The town starts experiencing strange seismic activity investigated by summer school teacher Mr. Grooberson and the location has ties to Gozer.

When previously talking about the film’s story, Murray said, "Well, we are a man down. That’s the deal. And that's the story that we're telling, that's the story they've written." The story has "lots of emotion in it" and "lots of family.”

Aykroyd has described the film as "scary … thought-provoking… very heartfelt.” He explained, “You'll feel it, if you have loved ones that you miss and that you've lost, and you want to get back with. It’ll be very evocative that way."

The film was directed by Jason Reitman from a script he co-wrote with Gil Kenan, and it also stars Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Paul Rudd.

Sony Pictures releases Ghostbusters: Afterlife March 5, 2021.
