Bill Skarsgard Comments On His Pennywise Vs. Tim Curry's
How will Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise live up to the interpretation of Tim Curry? That's a question many are asking as the premiere of IT looms near, and Skarsgard isn't taking a side in the argument. In a new interview with Dread Central, the actor comments on the differences between the two interpretations and notes that his is so different that it shouldn't really be compared to Curry's at all:
I think the way we approached it is, this is our new take on it, you know? And I think for my part, it was like, “I’m going to do a very different thing. I’m going to do my interpretation in my performance of Pennywise.” Also with Andy, with him designing the look and everything it’s just a completely different, new take on it. I do think that it’s so different that you can be into both things without them having to interfere, you know?
Fair enough, although it'll be hard for the audience to not compare the two when Curry's performance has been good enough to cause nightmares for generations. Ultimately, I have good faith that Skarsgard did everything he did to make this role as spooky as possible, and early buzz has been good so I feel even better about it. Do you think Skarsgard was right not to try and emulate Curry's Pennywise?
