Bill Skarsgård Charms His Captors in Teaser Trailer For Netflix's CLARK Series Following the Origin of Stockholm Syndrome
Bill Skarsgård is best known for playing Pennywise the Clown in the It saga, as well as several other intense characters. His role in the upcoming Netflix limited series Clark sees him portray a charismatic man who you can’t help but be drawn to, even as he holds you captive. Skarsgård plays Clark Olofsson, the man in Stockholm, Sweden, who in 1973 teamed up with a friend to rob a bank and hold a group of employees hostage for ransom. Because of the effects the men had over the group, befriending them, and developing bonds with them, the term “Stockholm Syndrome” was born.
The bank employees even went as far as to ask for the pair to receive lighter sentencing, and the media went wild for Olofsson and his friend. One reporter even called him "a scruffy Scandinavian mixture of Jesse James and Warren Beatty."
The series director, Jonas Åkerlund, made a statement about the project, saying:
[Clark is] about [Olofsson’s] whole life and what made him who he is, the truth and lies of his incredible career. Bill Skarsgård is the perfect match for this, and he will bring the Stockholm Syndrome to the role. And Netflix is the perfect platform, they are not just the biggest streaming service, they also have the boldness to tell this incredible story.
This looks like a great series. I have heard this story told on my favorite podcast My Favorite Murder Episode 197, and I think it will be cool to see it play out onscreen with the enigmatic Skarsgård playing Olofsson. Check out the trailer below, and we will let you know when the series has an official release date, sometime this year.
