Bille August to Direct Giorgio Armani Biopic ARMANI: THE KING OF FASHION

Two-Time Palme d’Or Winner Bille August (The Count of Monte Cristo) has signed on to direct Armani: The King of Fashion, a feature biopic of the late fashion giant Giorgio Armani. The project is being produced by Andrea Iervolino (Ferrari).

The film will follow the personal and professional evolution of Armani, widely regarded as among the most influential designers in 20th and 21st-century fashion.

Armani was an intensely private man but had a longstanding personal relationship with his business partner, the architect, fashion designer and businessman Sergio Galeotti, who died of complications from AIDS in 1985.

It’s not clear at this stage whether the film will take in Armani’s private life or focus solely on his work on the runway and red carpet. The Armani Group and family are not involved in the project and have not authorized or participated in its development or production.

Armani passed away on September 4, aged 91, due to liver failure. The icon was previously the subject of a 2015 short film by Martin Scorsese.

Crash writer Bobby Moresco, who has teamed with Iervolino multiple times and is directing the producer’s upcoming biopic Maserati: The Brothers starring Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia and Jessica Alba, is attached to write the screenplay for the Armani biopic.
