Billie Eilish in Talks to Make Feature Debut in Film Adaptation of THE BELL JAR With Director Sarah Polley

Singer Billie Eilish is in talks to make her film debut in the film adaptation of poet/writer Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar, from Academy Award winning director Sarah Polley.

Polley is set to adapt the screenplay and direct the film, her first movie since winning the best adapted screenplay Oscar for Women Talking in 2023. Eilish is a two-time Oscar winner for co-writing the original songs for Barbie and No Time to Die with her brother Finneas.

The Bell Jar is the only novel written by American writer and poet Plath. The semi-autobiographical story chronicles a young woman’s descent into mental illness amid the stifling societal expectations for women in the 1950s. The book, hailed as a literary classic, was published under a pseudonym in 1963, shortly before Plath’s suicide.

Eilish made her acting debut in the Prime Video series Swarm, co-created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers and starring Dominique Fishback.

Eilish delivered a standout performance, which earned her the People’s Choice Award for TV performance of the year and an Independent Spirit Award nod for best supporting performance in a new scripted series.

The 10-time Grammy winner is building on her filmography by co-directing the upcoming concert tour documentary Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft – The Tour with Avatar and Titanic helmer James Cameron.
