Björk is Playing in Director Robert Eggers’ Viking Revenge Film THE NORTHMAN

Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse) has started production on his Viking revenge thriller The Northman. It was also announced that Björk has joined the project and she will be taking on the role of the Slav Witch.

The rest of the all-star cast includes Nicole Kidman, Alexander SkarsgårdAnya Taylor-Joy, Willem Dafoe, Claes Bang, and Kate Dickey. We don’t know much about the story, but it’s set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century.

When previously talking about the film, the director opened up about the massive scale of the production and how the prep for this film is different than the others that he’s made, saying:

“There’s many locations in the film, so we were constantly going on scouts to find places or reassess places that we have found and we’re building sets there. We’re designing all these worlds, building these villages, we’re making thousands of costumes and props, training the horses the things they’ll need to do, designing the shots of the films. There’s a lot more storyboarding. Generally I only storyboard the scenes that have visual effects or animals and stunts, things where all the departments need to be on the same page for it to work out. But this movie there is rarely a scene that isn’t on a boat or doesn’t have a lot of extras. We’re storyboarding most of the film, which is taking a lot of time and we’re continuing to do that now on this hiatus.”

Eggers is one hell of a talented director. The attention to detail that he incorporates into his films are incredible, and the stories he tells are dark and intriguing. It’s going to be awesome to see what he ends up doing with The Northman and the Viking setting.
