BLACK ADAM Director Says The Film is a "Disrupter" In The Way Superhero Movies Are Made

It seems like “disruptor” is the buzz word being used to describe DC’s upcoming film Black Adam. Dwayne Johnson has used the word on a few occasions and now the director of the film Jaume Collet-Serra is using it. During an interview with Total Film, the director said Black Adam will be a disruptor in the way that superhero movies are made:

"Black Adam is a disruptor in the DC Comics world, and it has to be a disruptor in the way that we make a superhero movie. I like to be challenged, and I wanted to create new technology, so we developed the way that [Adam] moves, the way that he flies, his costume. And then it trickled down to every other character and the movie itself. But there was always the goal – to be new and unique in the storytelling and in every aspect of it."

While Black Adam is the main focus of the story, it also introduces several other new characters including Adam’s wife Adrianna, and also the Justice Society of America, which includes Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan). When talking about these new characters, Collet-Serra said:

"You have a couple of seasoned veterans, like Hawkman and Doctor Fate, and you have a couple of newbies like Atom Smasher and Cyclone. And that chemistry and coming together to try to defeat someone who’s undefeatable like Black Adam, creates a lot of interesting situations – without having the pressure to carry the whole movie. That’s a much more fresh way in."

I’m actually really excited about this movie and I’m curious to see if it actually lives up to the hype that Johnson and the director are building.

Black Adam will hit theaters on July 29th, 2022. To read up on all of our Black Adam coverage, click here.
