BLACK MIRROR is Officially Coming Back For Season 8 at Netflix

Netflix isn’t done holding up a dark, warped mirror to modern life. Black Mirror has officially been renewed for Season 8, with creator Charlie Brooker already deep into the early stages of shaping the next batch of unsettling stories.

Brooker confirmed the news himself in a freshly posted piece on Netflix’s Tudum site, and shared that the writing gears are already turning.

“I can confirm that Black Mirror will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it. So, that’s exciting. That chunk of my brain has already been activated and is whirring away.”

Now one of Netflix’s longest-running original series, Black Mirror continues to evolve while sticking to the creative instincts that made it such a defining anthology. Brooker explained that his approach to a new season always starts with self-interrogation and tone.

“Well, what haven’t we done yet, and what tone am I looking for?” he said. “It’s a useful thought experiment when approaching a new story. Where does this track come on the album, and what musical direction are we going to go into?”

Specifics about Season 8 are being kept tightly under wraps. There’s no word yet on casting or the emotional temperature of the upcoming episodes. Brooker has previously spoken about how each season finds its own identity.

He previously said that Season 7 leaned closer to the show’s earlier roots, while Season 6 shifted into what he described as “‘Red Mirror’ in that we had more horror and less emphasis on tech-related storylines.”

The renewal news lands at a pretty high moment for the series. Brooker made the announcement just 48 hours before heading to the Golden Globes, where Black Mirror Season 7 picked up a nomination for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television. Rashida Jones and Paul Giamatti also earned acting nominations for their work in the season.

Season 7 delivered a mix of emotionally heavy and concept-driven episodes, including “Common People” starring Jones and “Eulogy” led by Giamatti. It also made history for the franchise with its first-ever sequel, revisiting the fan-favorite “USS Callister.”

Shortly after the season dropped, Brooker and Black Mirror co-creator Annabel Jones parted ways with their Netflix-owned production banner Broke & Bones following the completion of their five-year deal.

he series is approaching its 15th year on television, having launched on Channel 4 before making the jump to Netflix after two seasons in 2016. That kind of longevity is rare for an anthology, especially one that constantly reinvents itself.

Outside of Black Mirror, Brooker also has another Netflix project in the works, an untitled detective series starring Paddy Considine, Lena Headey, and Georgina Campbell. He couldn’t resist underselling it with his usual dry humor. “The most detective show of all time,” Brooker told Tudum. “It’s a deeply profound and profoundly serious crime thriller.”

For now, Black Mirror fans can rest easy knowing that Season 8 is coming, and if history is any indication, it’ll probably hit a little too close to home in some freaky ways.
