BLACK PANTHER is the MCU’s JAMES BOND According to Director Ryan Coogler

While they are all superhero movies, each film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has its own flavor. Ant-Man was a heist film while Captain America: Winter Soldier is a conspiracy thriller flick. If Saturday Night Live is correct, Black Widow will be a RomCom (I would still watch it). And according to the director of Black Panther, Ryan Coogler, the newest film will be a James Bond-esque film. GamesRadar+ reports that in the latest Total Film, Coogler discusses how Marvel wanted Black Panther to be flavored:

When I first started talking to Marvel, one thing they were interested in was for Panther to be their version of James Bond, which I thought was incredibly interesting and exciting. It was a really outside-of-the-box way to look at T’Challa. There are some Bond films that I really, really like, and it gave me the opportunity to go watch some other ones.

I can kind of see this from the trailers already. You have your big chase scenes, the occasional fight, and some spy stuff happening already. Not to mention the fact that T’Challa is trying to keep the true nature of Wakanda hidden from the rest of the world. If you’ve read any of my other Black Panther posts, you know that I’m really excited for this film and this just adds fuel to the fire.

Black Panther will release February 16, 2018.
