Black Widow Had a Heartbreaking Alternate Storyline in AVENGERS: ENDGAME
Five years after “The Snap” in Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow was really down in the dumps. She was super depressed and doing everything that she could to help the situation. She just couldn’t let go of the pain and anguish she was feeling and it was part of what was driving her forward to help.
As you know, she ultimately sacrificed herself so that her family of fellow heroes could reverse what Thanos had done.
Well, there was an alternate storyline for Black Widow that wasn’t ultimately explored in the movie. It was a heartbreaking scenario that would have shown her dealing with the fallout of Thanos’s snap in a very different way that involved orphaned kids.
Director Joe Russo explained while a guest on The Slate Podcast The Gist:
"One thing that we talked about a lot—and I thought was really profound, but it was almost too large of an idea for us to wrangle, but we did try for a while—is just the idea that one-quarter of all children have no parents. Assuming you started with two parents. So that’s a lot of global orphans. Just the staggering number of that. I believe at one point really early in development, Black Widow was actually leading the organization in D.C. that was in charge of orphans, basically. That was what she was heading up five years later. But yes, it’s fascinating when you start running it down."
That would have actually been a really interesting aspect of Black Widow’s story to explore. But that could be a full movie on its own. It’s a very big concept to play with, but it’s something that I could see Black Widow being involved with organizing.
What do you all think about this aspect of Black Widow’s life that wasn’t explored in the movie?
