BLADE RUNNER 2 Upgrades to 2017 Release Date

I thought it was very strange that Alcon Entertainment set Blade Runner 2 to open in January of 2018, since January is typically a dumping ground for awful movies. But now that concern has slipped away like tears in rain, because Variety reports that the film has now upgraded to the earlier release date of October 6, 2017 instead of January 12, 2018. That's an interesting date, too — it's after what's sure to be a glut of big-budget summer movies, during a time when studios generally start pushing out their awards-caliber movies. Hmm...

The film, which is being produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Sicario helmer Denis Villeneuve, is set to start shooting this summer (through the lenses of legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins) with Harrison Ford reprising his role as Rick Deckard. He'll be joined by Ryan Gosling, Dave Bautista, and Robin Wright. If you're interested, you can read Ridley Scott's description of the opening scene of the film right here.
