BLADE RUNNER 2049 Has Officially Been Slapped With an R-Rating

Blade Runner fans have been loving the footage that we've seen from the upcoming sequel Blade Runner 2049. It looks visually stunning, but we didn't really know what to expect from the rating. We didn't know how dark, violent, or hardcore the movie would get.

For those of you who were worried that the sequel might be toned down for a wider audience, worry no longer because the MPAA officially slapped the film with an R-rating. In case you're wondering what falls under that rating, the MPAA says Blade Runner 2049 will be rated R “For violence, some sexuality, nudity, and language.”

I think most of us knew that the movie would end up being Rated R because that's what director Denis Villeneuve was shooting for. He previously said

“My producers are finding it fun to remind me that it will be one of the most expensive R-rated independent feature films ever made.”

It's looking like fans of the first film are going to get the kind of sequel they are hoping for. As long as we get a great story, to go along with the amazing visuals and familiar tone. Villeneuve is a crazy talented director so I'm not really worried. I just can't wait to see it!

Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who’s been missing for 30 years.

Blade Runner 2049 hits theaters October 6.
