BLADE RUNNER 2099 Trailer Drops and Prime Video Confirms Late Fall Premiere
The world of Blade Runner is expanding again with Blade Runner 2099, and if the first trailer is any indication, Prime Video looks ready to pull fans back into one of science fiction's most visually unforgettable universes.
During its Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Prime Video debuted the first trailer and confirmed that the long-awaited series will premiere on November 25.
Set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, the series continues the franchise's timeline with a brand-new story that looks every bit as moody, mysterious, and dangerous as fans would hope.
Produced by Ridley Scott as an executive producer alongside Alcon Entertainment, the series returns audiences to Los Angeles, but this version of the city has evolved in unexpected ways.
At the center of the story is Hunter Schafer as Cora, a human fugitive who is desperate to stop running. Her only way forward is by assuming one final identity... a Blade Runner. That path forces her into an uneasy partnership with Michelle Yeoh, who plays Olwen, a replicant with only days left to live.
As you know, replicants are advanced synthetic humans that have long blurred the line between machine and person. Blade Runners are the officers tasked with hunting them down and eliminating them.
Of course, this franchise has always been about much more than action. It's about identity, memory, and asking whether humanity is defined by biology or something deeper.
The trailer leans into those ideas immediately. Cora reflects on the growing divide between humans and replicants, saying: "Replicants they keep taking it all away. How much longer until we have nothing? Until we are nothing?"
Blade Runner has always thrived on philosophical questions wrapped inside gorgeous cyberpunk visuals. The Hall H panel brought together Yeoh, Schafer, series showrunner and executive producer Silka Luisa, along with Alcon Entertainment co-founders and executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, giving fans their first real look at where this next chapter is headed.
There has always been a passionate fanbase surrounding Blade Runner, and that audience only grew after Blade Runner 2049 earned its own devoted following.
Blade Runner 2099 feels like it's embracing what people love about the franchise and trailer delivers the familiar atmosphere while introducing fresh characters and a mystery that could push the mythology into some fascinating new territory.
