Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni To Star in Film Adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s IT ENDS WITH US

Blake Lively (A Simple Favor) and Justin Baldoni (Jane the Virgin) are set to star in a film adaptation of author Colleen Hoover’s popular novel It Ends With Us. Baldoni will also direct the movie from a script being adapted by Christy Hall. The project is in development with Wayfarer Studios and Sony Pictures.

The story follows a girl named Lily “who has just moved and is ready to start her life after college. Lily then meets a guy named Ryle and she falls for him. As she is developing feelings for Ryle, Atlas, her first love, reappears and challenges the relationship between Lily and Ryle.”

The book exploded in popularity on TikTok as it became a “BookTok” cultural phenomenon with more than 2 billion views on Hoover’s TikTok hashtag. Hoover currently is the best-selling novelist in the U.S., with over 20 million books sold, and she wrote five of the 10 bestselling print books of any genre in 2022.

I’m obviously out of the loop because this movie announcement is the first time that I’ve heard of this book and the author. But, it’s cool that the author is seeing success in her work! Hoover is also going to be consulting on the movie.

Alex Saks will produce for Saks Picture Company, along with Jamey Heath, who will produce on behalf of Wayfarer Studios. Lively and Hoover are executive producing along with Steve Sarowitz, Andrew Calof and Baldoni on behalf of Wayfarer, which is also co-financing. Hall is also producing.

Lively is keeping herself busy these days having directed Taylor Swift’s music video “I Bet You Think About Me” back in 2021. She will next star in director Paul Feig’s A Simple Favor sequel alongside Anna Kendrick. She is also going to be making her feature directorial debut for Searchlight with the adaptation of the Bryan Lee O’Malley graphic novel Seconds, written and produced by Edgar Wright.
