BLAZING DOMINION Cooks the Old YU-GI-OH! Meta and Grand Master Rares Release This Year
Blazing Dominion is the latest core booster set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Inside, duelists can find new support for Kewl Tune which has quickly cemented itself as the strongest deck in the format, especially after the recent Forbidden & Limited list.
The set also bring the Clown Crew archetype and new support for other archetypes such as GMX, DoomZ, Power Patrons, and many more. Konami was kind enough to send me a mini box of Blazing Dominion and you can check out my pulls down below. Don’t forget to purchase packs at your favorite game stores.
More importantly though, Konami recently announced a new Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG product that I am hyped for. Magnificent Monsters is releasing on September 4 and it is making some pretty exciting promises. One of the biggest things is that this side set is replacing the annual tins. There’s something a little sad about that, but honestly the last several tins have been really bad.
Probably the biggest hype around Magnificent Monsters though is the TCG introduction of Grand Master Rares. These are serialized cards with extended art and hieroglyphic borders with only 100 copies being available in each region (Americas and everywhere else).
Many duelists have been chomping at the bit for their introduction to the TCG after their OCG reveal. Of course, there’s plenty of concern and trepidation on the part of many duelists as fears rise about more and more scalpers trying to ruin this hobby that we love.
Hopefully it won’t be that bad. It should be noted that the Grand Master Rares will be available in packs of all different languages, but the cards themselves will all be in English.
Out of the 126 cards included in the Magnificent Monsters set, 18 of them are brand-new “reimagined” cards inspired by the protagonists of the six anime series (sorry Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens).
There are also 20 new or variant art cards, 6 brand-new boss monsters (one for each type of Special Summon), 40 foil upgrades, and 40 “highly sought-after reprints.” The 18 “reimagined” cards are the ones that will introduce Grand Master Rares into the TCG and are as follows:

Now we get to what I think is a very interesting little bit. The pack breakdown. Each box comes with three 5-card packs, plus a special 3-card pack. The 3-card packs are bonus Secret Rares with chances to upgrade to Starlight with the following breakdown:
The 5-card packs will have four cards that are always Ultra Rare and the fifth card will have the opportunity to be an Extended Art: Ultra Rare, Starlight Rare, or Grand Master Rare. The full breakdown is here:
I am genuinely excited for Magnificent Monsters and hope that it does not quickly devolve into a terrible product like the tins. I think it is important to acknowledge the risk Grand Master Rares are bringing into the hobby of scalpers potentially doing real harm.
I’m hopeful that it won’t be too bad though. Unfortunately, there is the downside that each box will cost $34.99 at MSRP. That’s quite a bit and many of the cards probably won’t have much use nor value for very long, if at all. What are your thoughts on Magnificent Monsters? Which card are you hoping to get in Grand Master Rare?
