Blizzcon 2019 Overview: Good Things Come to Those Who Wait
Another Blizzcon has come and gone. Three days of awesome announcements and world tournaments converged this past weekend. Right now though, we’ll be giving you the quick overview of all the biggest announcements for Blizzard’s major titles. Also, check the Blizzcon website for more detailed news and the videos we linked below.
Diablo IV
It exists. It’s a reality. The titan of demon-slaying is back in the long-awaited Diablo IV. Staying with its isometric viewpoint, the visceral RPG-action game style, and deep, dark terrors, Diablo IV looks like what we’ve all been waiting for. With a brutal and tone defining cinematic along with gameplay and demos shown at Blizzcon, we can’t wait to see this game in our hands, but it may be a while, so yo could back and play some Diablo III in the meantime.
Overwatch 2
Another show-stopping announcement, the sequel to the worldwide shooter phenomena, Overwatch 2, is revealed. With a fully realized story mode, replayable PVE missions across all maps, and character upgrades, there seems to be a lot to do. Overwatch 2 will also include all maps, all aesthetic items, and characters from the first Overwatch. We will also see updated and refined graphics, new characters, and a new PVP mode called push. There is no release window here though, so continue to enjoy your time playing the heck out of Overwatch (which got virtually no updates or news).
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands
World of Warcraft has been entertaining a number of its players and community with WoW Classic, but a new, massive expansion has now been announced. WoW Shadowlands sends the player into the depths of a world that has never been seen by the people of the living. A wonderful cinematic was unveiled that shows how the world will be flipped on its head (almost literally) as players deal with the dead along with ancient powers, good and evil, from long before the Warcraft history was written.
Heroes of the Storm
The most requested character of all Blizzard lore is finally coming to the storm — Deathwing. He was playable over the weekend, and when he is released, all owners of the Virtual Ticket and attendees of Blizzcon will get him for free. Also, from now till November 10th, all heroes will be free to play, so enjoy and try out anyone and everyone until then!
Warcraft 3 Reforged
With WoW Classic, we were able to see a glimpse of what Blizzard may have planned for its older games and IPs. Warcraft 3 Reforged got an announcement that a closed beta would start on Tuesday for all owners of the Virtual Ticket and Blizzcon attendees.
Hearthstone: Descent of Dragons AND Battlegrounds
We actually got two pretty big announcements from the Hearthstone team. The first is the newest expansion coming December 10th, Descent of Dragons. This expansion will be filled with dragons – a legendary dragon for each class and a couple of the classes will also be getting hero cards based on the most powerful dragon of them all, Galakrond. He will have an upgraded hero power and have a powerful battlecry that can be upgraded over time with other cards that are unique for each class. Along with all the dragons flying into Hearthstone, there is a new game mode coming: Battlegrounds. This is a new, eight-person game mode where players will choose from 24 different heroes with unique ways to play. Then players will recruit minions and combine them to create an unstoppable board and crush your enemies. This new game mode will have a closed beta starting November 5th and an open beta starting the 12th. See you in the Tavern!
