BLUE BEETLE Star Xolo Maridueña Celebrates MAN OF TOMORROW Return and Says It's the Perfect Time to Rewatch BLUE BEETLE
Xolo Maridueña is officially set to reprise his role as Jaime Reyes in the DC Universe, and he's celebrating the news. Following confirmation that he'll return inMan of Tomorrow, the Blue Beetle star shared a collection of behind-the-scenes photos from the 2023 film and encouraged fans to give the movie another watch.
What started as a nostalgic look back quickly became a reminder that Jaime Reyes' story is only just getting started. The Instagram post is both a celebration of everything the movie accomplished and a reminder that Jaime Reyes' story is far from over in the new DC Universe.
Along with the gallery of never-before-seen set photos, Maridueña shared a heartfelt message with fans:
“Seems like as good a time as ever to check out Blue Beetle (2023) if you haven’t! This character was/continues to be the most gratifying experience. Shoutout Ángel, shout out DC, shout out our crew, and the BlueBeetleBattalion. Some BTS I’ll never get over.”
The photos document some memorable moments from the production, beginning with life on set in Puerto Rico and ending beneath Jaime Reyes' massive billboard towering over Times Square.
One image highlights Nana Reyes caring for Jaime with a little Vicks, prompting Maridueña to joke: “Nana is sending healing thoughts!!!”
Another features his on-screen sister, Belissa Escobedo, who played Milagro Reyes. Maridueña couldn't resist adding a little humor, captioning it: “You may now kiss the bride…till death do us part,”
He also took a moment to spotlight director Ángel Manuel Soto and one of the film's most visually striking sequences featuring Damián Alcázar. “Ángel perfectly paid homage + referenced some of our favorite films,”
The final image in the carousel brings everything full circle, showing Maridueña standing beneath Blue Beetle's giant Times Square advertisement with the caption: “CONCRETE JUNGLE WHERE DREAMS ARE MADE OF.”
Looking back at Blue Beetle carries a little more significance now that Jaime Reyes officially has a future in James Gunn's DC Universe. Man of Tomorrow is currently in the middle of production, and it will see David Corenswet's Superman face Brainiac while forming an uneasy alliance with Lex Luthor.
Gunn has been consistent about where Blue Beetle fits into his long-term plans. As he previously explained: “The first DCU character, for sure, Blue Beetle, and the first full DCU movie is ‘Superman,’”
That statement always hinted that Jaime Reyes would have an important role moving forward, and now fans finally know they'll get to see him suit up again.
Maridueña has also made it clear that he's more than ready to jump back into the Scarab. Speaking previously about the possibility of another adventure, he said: “If we get to do another one, I’m so ready — and shit, I’ll put on another 20 pounds and get even bigger.”
Man of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
