BLUE BEETLE Star Xolo Maridueña Weighs in On Rumors That His DCU Character Could Appear in PEACEMAKER
Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle was one of the few carryover characters that filmmaker James Gunn said would stick around after he and Peter Safran took over the reigns at DC studios.
While an animated series has been talked about at the studio, Maridueña’s live-action return has not yet been revealed. But there have been rumors that he will appear in Peacemaker, which is currently airing its second season on HBO Max.
Peacemaker features the title character, played by another carryover actor from the DCEU, John Cena, and this season is said to be bringing together many of the characters we were just introduced to in the summer blockbuster Superman, as well as a few other surprises.
Could one of those surprises be Blue Beetle? Both Gunn and Maridueña have been asked about the rumor, and neither exactly played it cool.
In an interview with IMDb, Gunn was asked about the possibility, and he responded, "Well, you know, I won't say you're not in luck."
Maridueña was then asked in an interview (check out the clip below) about his thoughts regarding what Gunn said, and he dodged the question, and pretty much said we would have to wait and see. But both of these responses seem to inadvertently confirm that we can anticipate this awesome team-up!
Even Angel Manuel Soto, who directed the Blue Beetle movie, posted a photo of the superhero on his socials with the Peacemaker banner in the background. So I think it’s fair to say that this rumor is substantiated. What do you think?
