Blumhouse Attempted to Make an INSIDIOUS and SINISTER Crossover Film
Blumhouse has enjoyed a lot of success from the horror films that they’ve made over the years. They’re doing great work out there, and fans of the genre have been enjoying the fruits of their labor. It turns out that at one point they were looking to build a shared universe and they actually tried developing a Insidious and Sinister crossover film! This bit of info came from Jason Blum himself in a recent interview with Cinepop, and he explained why it never happened:
"I think it would be fun to do, but we have to find the right story. We developed it for a while, like you said, you're right, we did develop it for a while, but we could never come up with a great movie. And I didn't want to make a movie just for the sake of combining the two franchises. I wanted to make a movie that was really good. We never came up with a great idea, but I'm open."
I get that crossover movies like that can be fun, but sometimes it just isn’t needed. The fact that they couldn’t crack a story for this Insidious/Sinister crossover is just proof that the movie didn’t need to be made.
I like both of those franchises but there’s really no reason to have them crossover. Insidious centers on a couple whose son slips in a state of astral projection, making him a conduit for demonic activity and essentially allowing him to become possessed. Sinister follows a struggling true-crime writer who finds a collection of disturbing violent and gruesome snuff films, and he finds himself pulled into a horrific nightmare.
