Blumhouse is Developing a Film About The Rise and Fall of WeWork with The Writer of THE BIG SHORT
The story of the rise and fall of WeWork and its founder Adam Neumann is getting the big-screen treatment thanks to Blumhouse and Universal Pictures. Blumhouse is mostly known for its horror films so this is a different and interesting new direction for them.
The studio has hired screenwriter Charles Randolph to work on the script. He won an Oscar for best-adapted screenplay for The Big Short. He also wrote the upcoming film Bombshell, so, at least we know that the script will be good!
WeWork is the shared-workplace startup company that pulled the plug on an initial public offering in September after investors raised questions against its mounting losses. The company ended up accepting a bailout from SoftBank in October.
I didn’t know the whole behind the scenes story of WeWork, but after reading this article, which details the inside story of what went wrong, I learned that it sure is filled with some good and fascinating drama. The film will be based on Katrina Brooker’s reporting and upcoming book on the matter. Brooker has “conducted in-depth interviews with Neumann and dozens of sources within SoftBank and WeWork, and written stories on the fallout of WeWork’s IPO.” She also wrote the article I linked to in this post.
The story for the film will follow the “intertwined lives and ambitions of Neumann and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son.”
