Blumhouse Kills The Dracula Film Project MINA HARKER They Were Developing

Blumhouse has been developing a Dracula film project with Miramax titled Mina Harker, but they are no longer moving forward with it. According to the report, Miramax exited over creative differences with director Karyn Kusama (Æon Flux, Jennifer's Body, Destroyer, Yellowjackets).

Blindspotting actress and #FreeRayshawn Emmy winner Jasmine Cephas Jones was set to star in the film, which was going to be set in modern-day Los Angeles. The story was going to focus on Mina Harker, “who plays opposite Dracula in the movie, with the classic Bram Stoker protagonist going by the name of Vladimir in the film.”

The script was written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, and it’s obviously inspired by Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula. The film was supposed to start shooting in three weeks.

When previously talking about the film, Kusama said: "It's a fairly faithful adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel. I think something that gets overlooked in the adaptations of Dracula in the past is the idea of multiple voices. In fact, the book is filled with different points of view. And the one point of view we don't get access to, and all most adaptations give access to, is Dracula himself. So I would just say in some respect, this is going to be an adaptation called 'Dracula,' but it's perhaps not the same kind of romantic hero that we've seen in the past… in past interpretations of Dracula."

It’d be interesting to get more details on what is going on behind the scenes of the film because there’s got to be more to the story than just creative decisions. I mean, a production company completely dropped out, which tells me there is a complete lack of faith in the project and the talent involved.
