Blumhouse TV Teases Adapting Another Movie Into a Series

During the panel entitled “The House That Horror Built: Inside Blumhouse Television” at the ATX Television Festival, the heads of Blumhouse talked about the future of the studio and what stories they’re looking to tell through TV. We all know Blumhouse for the horror movies they built their reputation around, but they have also brought us some surprises over the years, like the Oscar-winning film Whiplash, the sci-fi thriller Glass, and the latest films that gave a new feel to the horror genre, Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Us.

The studio is looking to branch out and tell their stories in the form of TV series. Co-president Marci Wiseman said, when talking about the direction that the studio is looking to head, that “Blumhouse is not just about the monsters under the bed, but [about exploring] things in the world that scare us and keep us up at night.” Executive Amanda Spain added that they are creating stories about difficult subjects, and they are hoping people will want to watch, but I don’t think they have too much to worry about considering the success of the film Get Out, which definitely had a heavy subject matter.

Blumhouse also backed last year’s HBO drama Sharp Objects, which was incredible, and USA Network’s The Purge, which I didn’t watch, but I know had a pretty good response from fans. The Showtime limited series The Loudest Voice starring Russell Crowe is set to premiere June 30th, as well as the adaptation The Good Lord Bird starring Ethan Hawke, as well as Into the Dark at Hulu and Sacred Lies on Facebook Watch.

The panel said they do have their eye on a Blumhouse feature that they’d like to adapt, but they aren’t giving out the details yet. The only thing Wiseman was willing to spill was, “It’s an origin story that could be a whole world.”

Any guesses? What Blumhouse film would you like to see made into a series?
