Blumhouse Would Love to Take a Crack at Bringing Universal's Dark Universe Back From the Dead

I'm sure you all remember that time when Universal Pictures made big plans to build a big cinematic monster universe. They called it Dark Universe and they made plans for The Mummy, The Bride of Frankenstein, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Wolfman, The Creature from The Black Lagoon and more. Then they released Tom Cruise's The Mummy, and all of their exciting plans went to shit.

They just started the whole thing off on the wrong foot and took it in the completely wrong direction. I still think this whole Dark Universe thing could be really cool. At this point, they just need to start from scratch with a completely different creative team.

During a recent Q&A on Twitter, Blumhouse head Jason Blum excitedly expressed interest in playing with the Universal monsters along with a few other big horror movie properties.

As you can see, when asked about taking over the Dark Universe, he said "yes" with a lot of exclamation points. Honestly, I think Blumhouse could do some great things with those monsters if given the chance. They have a great track record for making great horror movies. Will they ever get a chance to do it? Probably not. I'm sure Universal will eventually take another crack at it, but not anytime soon.

Blum is then asked about getting the rights to other horror movie franchises and this is something that he's obviously already been trying to do. He even says that he's been trying to get the rights to Friday The 13th.

That's cool and all, but that Friday The 13th franchise just needs to die already. If they came up with an original horror slasher film concept, then they wouldn't need to worry about getting the rights.

He goes on to reveal that he's tried getting the rights to The Crow. Personally, I think with all the drama that film production has gone through, they dodged a bullet.

As far as the possibility of seeing another Scream movie goes, Blum hasn't completely ruled it out.

Blumhouse's next film is the new Halloween movie, which I'm pretty excited about. What do you all think about the production company possibly taking on Universal's Dark Universe or Friday The 13th
