Blumhouse's Adaptation of Stephen King's FIRESTARTER Gearing Up To Shoot Later This Year
Blumhouse is preparing for their upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel Firestarter. This is the second film adaptation of the book, and I’m interested to see what Blumhouse has planned for it.
King’s original story follows a young girl named Charlie McGee, who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency called the Department of Scientific Intelligence, aka “The Shop.” They want to harness her powerful gift as a weapon. This obviously was a heavy influence on Stranger Things. The first film was released in 1984 and starred a very young Drew Barrymore, who gave a wonderful performance.
Movieweb has an update on the new film thanks to screenwriter Scott Teems (The Quarry). When asked about the status of the film, Teems said:
“I’m still the writer. We just got a new director named Keith Thomas and he made a great film called The Vigil coming up this year, and Universal and Blumhouse, they want to make Firestarter. It has always been an important project to them. I think we’re making active steps toward that happening this year. You know, the industry shut down notwithstanding, and that may change things, but right now, I’m really hopeful that it might happen this year.”
There’s no casting news to share at this time, but are there any young actresses that you’d like to see take on the lead role?
