Showtime is developing a new hour-long mob drama which is coming from Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, and producers Brian Grazer and Nicholas Pileggi.

Winter is writing the untitled series and it’s inspired by Pileggi’s “in-depth chronology of organized crime in America — which is also the history of corruption in America — as seen through the eyes of the mafia’s First Family.”

Pileggi is best known for writing the books Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family and Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas. Those novels were adapted into the films Goodfellas and Casino, by director Martin Scorsese and Pileggi co-wrote the scripts for those movies as well.

There’s a lot of great talent attached to this project and as someone who has a fascination with the history of the mobs in America, this is a series that I can’t wait to see! I wish I had more details to share with you, but with Winter’s involvement, I know we are going to get quality and smart entertainment.
