Bob Iger Steps Down as CEO of Disney and is Replaced By Bob Chapek

Some huge Disney news just dropped! Disney’s board of directors has named Bob Chapek Disney’s Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. So, one Bob is replacing another.

The CEO position was previously held by Bob Iger, who has done an incredible job leading Disney and taking the company to new levels of greatness. He is still with the company and will be taking on the role of Executive Chairman. He will “direct the company’s creative endeavors, while continuing to lead the board.” So, he’s still got the power to wield.

He will stay in his new role through the end of his contract on December 31, 2021. After that, who knows what he’s going to do. Iger said in a statement:

“With the successful launch of Disney’s direct-to-consumer businesses and the integration of Twenty-First Century Fox well underway, I believe this is the optimal time to transition to a new CEO. I have the utmost confidence in Bob and look forward to working closely with him over the next 22 months as he assumes this new role and delves deeper into Disney’s multifaceted global businesses and operations, while I continue to focus on the company’s creative endeavors.”

As for Chapek, he most recently served as chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. Chapek has some big shoes to fill, but obviously Disney’s board is confident enough in him to lead Disney and take the company to the places it needs to go in the future.
